How To: Holiday Dressing

How To: Holiday Dressing

Happy Holidays! I haven’t posted in over a week now for the typical excuse - work has been crazy and I’ve been home with my family for the holidays. For those who don’t know, I work for a Japanese textile company. I have two main jobs: Trend forecaster and fabric consultant. As a trend forecaster I work on the seasonal fabric trends and basically am in charge of the research and development of our seasonal collections. Technically I also work in sales but since I do a lot of development and consulting with my customers, I consider myself more of a consultant. I work with the high end fashion designers (mostly based in NYC) which ties in with the trend forecasting as my clients tend to more effected by the seasonal trends than a “brand” that has a most consistent style. Long story short - this was a way of giving an excuse that the last week of work was full of "fashion emergencies" and I’ve been going crazy

What I want to talk about today is holiday dressing. I love bringing in sparkles and metallics to the holiday but I do not approve of dressing trashy. I think “sexy” doesn’t necessarily mean showing skin or wearing skin tight outfits but refers more to being confident in yourself because you look classy and beautiful. The dress I wore on Christmas Eve was something I found at a thrift shop a year ago and wore for New Years 2016; There is no tag, no care instructions, no name, not even a size! It was fate that I found it and have loved it from day one. My best memory in this dress was when Josh and I were in an elevator in the Renaissance Hotel in Baltimore and a little girl looked up at me and said “Wow you are beautiful and look like a princess!”

The reason I am so against dressing trashy is that moment. You should dress in a way that would make you proud for a little girl to want to look like you one day. When you dress beautifully and feel confident, you shine in a the way that every woman wants to shine on the holidays; from the inside-out. Below you will find my pics for every budget and some accessories if you prefer your statement pieces to be smaller (just remember to dress more conservatively if your accessories are screaming for attention)

Under $25

This is a basic silver sequin dress that is only $24! I like that is isn't skin tight but it is fun and bright. Buy it here

Under $50

I love this flapper style dress - its so fun and the beadwork is beautiful! I think it truly is a statement piece and it comes in tons of colours. By it here

Under $50 (Again...)

Found another dress under $50 that is a bit more understated but still beautiful. This one is a bit more conservative but extremely classy and the draping of the neckline in the front and back is beautiful. Buy it here

So I love to splurge but I can only justify it if its something I can wear on more than one occasion.  I recommend going more with a gold/beige tone since silver is too NYE-Centric. This one is definitely something you can wear to multiple occasions and is worth the investment - buy it here

Party Crop Top

Not everyone likes dresses and skirts so why not wear a fancy top? This crop top is really beautiful and stays classy even though it shows a lot of skin. I would pair this with a looser fitting, low rise pair of black slacks with a tapered leg and the heels listed below - buy it here

Metallic Fringe Top

If you really want to make a statement but don't want to wear a dress - this is what you need. This shirt screams holiday and is so much fun. I would wear this with a pair of skinny jeans and boots (simple or statement depending on your personal style). Buy it here

Statement Shoes

So I love these and so should you - a statement heel can really bring an outfit from basic to extraordinary (These are inexpensive as well!) Buy it here

The Boots

Yes I said "The Boots" because these are amazing and I want them desperately (Also these are 100% Yve Saint Laurent knock-offs but the originals are $10,000....) These boots are really amazing but I just can't bring myself to buy them because I really can only wear them on NYE... But if you can do it - buy them here
